Douglass DeCandia

Farmer and Food Growing Program Coordinator with the Food Bank for Westchester

The work I do is to provide nourishing food to people, and to grow this food in ways that are also healing for the land. Our "Farm" is a collective of 5 sites throughout Westchester County (Leake and Watts school in Yonkers, NY School for the Deaf in White Plains, Woodfield Cottage Juvenile Detention in Valhalla, Westchester County Jail in Valhalla, Westchester Land Trust in Bedford Hills) where the youth, adults and myself participate in the growing and care of plants and soil. I, personally, believe that good food should free and accessible for everyone, and that through good food and good farming the healing of the person and of the land can be realized together.
